Description: MARINTEK is a versatile research company specialising in R&D in central areas of marine activities. Head office is situated in Trondheim. MARINTEK has subsidiaries in Houston, USA and Rio, Brazil. Its objectives are to strengthen the competitiveness of its clients, stimulate industrial development and commercial activities in general, and promote industrial safety. The company is to generate comprehensive approaches and new national and international initiatives. The company is a part of the SINTEF Group. MARINTEK collaborates with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and supports education and basic research in areas related to the activities of the company. Advanced hydrodynamic laboratories and numerical tools will be used within the project. MARINTEK has 200 employees, of which 65% of them have Master or PhD degrees. MARINTEK has expertise both in experimental as well as theoretical fields and has been involved in several European projects.
Main tasks: WP leader for WP 3 – Experimental Studies. Will also contribute to numerical tasks.
Mr. Dariusz Fathi is Research Manager within Seakeeping, Manoeuvring and Software Development at the Department of Ship Technology at MARINTEK. He has been working within this field at MARINTEK since 1995. He took his MSc in Ship Hydrodynamics at the Norwegian Institute of Technology (now NTNU) in 1993. His thesis work was conducted at MIT in Boston in 1993. He is currently a member of the ITTC Seakeeping Committee. His main fields of competence are ship hydrodynamics, seakeeping of ships, ship performance (propulsion and manoeuvring) in a seaway, resistance of ships and software development.
Dr. Kourosh Koushan is Research Director and Head of Department of Ship Technology at MARINTEK since January 2008. He took his PhD in Technical University of Berlin in 1997.
He worked also as assistant lecturer and project engineer during course of his PhD study. He joined MARINTEK in 1997 as researcher, promoted to senior researcher in 2000 and to principal researcher in 2005. He is currently a member of Advisory Council of the ITTC. His main fields of competence are: Propulsion, Hydrofoils and Experimental Techniques.
Dr. Florian Sprenger joined MARINTEK in February 2013 as a research scientist specialized in hydrodynamics and seakeeping. He received his PhD in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering in 2012 from Technical University of Berlin, where he has been working for 6 years as a research scientist. He is experienced in numerical as well as experimental analyses of seakeeping behaviour of ships, offshore LNG offloading, marine oil recovery techniques and installation of marine renewable energy projects.
