Description: VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is non-profit research organisation operating under the auspices of the Finnish Ministry of Employment and Economy. MuDeltitechnological applied research at VTT provides high-end technology solutions and innovation services. VTT is the biggest research organisation in Northern Europe with over 3100 employees. In the past 20 years, VTT has participated in more than 1000 European R&D Framework Programme projects, within various thematic programmes.
Main tasks: VTT is contributing to WP2, WP4 and WP5
Mr. Kai Happonen, M.Sc. (Tech.), Naval Architect, from Helsinki University of Technology in 1995. He has worked at VTT around ship manoeuvring hydrodynamics, covering model tests, manoeuvring simulations as well as simulator development. He has taken care of several commercial projects concerning operational ship safety in environmental conditions and he has also participated EC research projects MASSTER and OPTIPOD.
Mr Jussi Martio, M.Sc. (Tech.), Naval Architect, graduated from Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) in 1996 (Ship Hydrodynamics). He has been involved in several ship hydrodynamics fields including URANS-computations (especially free surface simulations and propulsion studies), ship manoeuvring simulations, sea keeping studies and propulsion since mid 90s.
Mr. Seppo Kivimaa, M.Sc. (Tech.), Naval Architect, from Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) in 1984, and MBA from Helsinki School of Economics in 2005. He participated in various national projects in winter navigation and EC funded research projects (DISCO, Pods In Service, MARSTRUCT, S @ S) as scientific responsible and principle investigator. Recently he is in charge of maritime activities at VTT as Technology Manager.
Saara Hänninen, M.Sc. (Tech.), Naval Architect, Helsinki Univ. of Tech. (TKK) in 2001 and has since worked at VTT as a research scientist in “Maritime Operations and Environment” and “Ships and Marine Structures” teams.
Tapio Nyman, Senior Scientist, M.Sc. (Tech.), Naval Architect, from Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) in 1982. He has taken part in development of FSA-process for the Baltic Sea in the Swedish-Finnish- Danish BaSSy (Baltic Sea Safety)-project as project manager of the Finnish subproject.
